Katowice International Airport is located in the town of Pyrzowice in Poland, from which it gets its name. At 30 kilometers north of the city centre of Katowice, it’s easily accessible from Katowice, which itself is well-connected with bigger cities like Krakow and Wroclaw. Katowice International Airport has two terminals. Terminal A handles all non-Schengen flights, while Terminal B handles all Schengen flights. The longest airport observation deck in Poland can be found inside Terminal B. Thanks to the popularity of low-cost airlines, Katowice airport has grown from a tiny local airport to an international hub, most often serving passengers on their way to Krakow. The following airlines now serve Katowice, with low-fare airlines like Wizz Air opening more and more connections regularly: Air France, Centralwings, Eurolot, Exin, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, White Eagle Aviation and Wizz Air. In 2007 a new high speed road was opened between the Podwarpie junction and the terminal building. Passengers traveling by car from Katowice city centre should take the S86 express road and follow the signs to Pyrzowice. The journey by car from Pyrzowice airport to Krakow takes about 1.5 hour and is a good opportunity to see a bit of the countryside on the way. Car Rental Company is pf cource located at Katowice airport, where passengers can rent a car for affordable prices. If you are on the budget, there are buses leaving to Katowice frequently from the airport. From Katowice city center you can catch a train or bus to Krakow, just be aware than even a short visit to Katowice main train station might be a pretty hard core experience. The local taxis are also available at the airport but it’s advised to check their rates carefully before taking one.
